Phenotype

Set of observable characteristics of an individual, resulting from gene-environment interaction.

📖 Full definition

Phenotype refers to anything measurable or observable in a living being: eye color, nose shape, height, behaviour, biochemistry. It opposes the genotype (raw genetic code). Two people can have different genotypes and similar phenotypes, or vice versa.

💡 Concrete example

Your child may have inherited 50% of DNA from each parent (balanced genotype) but visually look 80% like dad (phenotype dominated by paternal genes).
