GWAS

Genome-Wide Association Study: statistical hunt for genes linked to a trait.

📖 Full definition

A GWAS compares the whole genome of thousands of individuals to identify genetic variants associated with a trait (height, disease, eye colour). It is the standard method to study polygenic traits. Limits: it finds associations, not direct causes.

💡 Concrete example

GWAS on height identified more than 700 contributing genes, explaining ~40% of observed variability.
