Autosomal

Located on a non-sex chromosome (autosome), among the 22 human pairs.

📖 Full definition

Humans have 23 chromosome pairs: 22 autosomes (1-22) and one sex chromosome pair (XX or XY). "Autosomal" inheritance is therefore independent of sex — girls and boys are equally affected. By contrast, X-linked inheritance depends on sex.

💡 Concrete example

The OCA2 gene is autosomal: eye colour is inherited the same way in boys and girls.
