What is a parent-child resemblance test?
A parent-child resemblance test powered by artificial intelligence answers a question everyone has asked at least once: which parent does my child look like? Dad? Mum? Both? Thanks to facial analysis, you can now get an answer in seconds, in the form of a resemblance percentage score.
Look Like Me uses Look Like Me Engine to analyse the facial features of three photos: you, your father, and your mother. The AI compares geometric characteristics — interpupillary distance, nose shape, jaw contour — and calculates a similarity index for each pair.
Father or mother resemblance: what does science say?
The question of father or mother resemblance has long fascinated geneticists. A study from the University of British Columbia (Bressan & Grassi, 2004) showed that newborns tend to look more like their father in the first weeks of life — possibly as an evolutionary mechanism for paternal attachment. As the child grows, the resemblance rebalances.
Among the most heritable traits: nose shape (heritability > 60%), the distance between the eyes, cheekbone shape and jaw contour. These are precisely the points on which Look Like Me's AI focuses its family resemblance analysis.
How does our resemblance test work?
- Upload 3 photos — yours, your father's and your mother's (JPG, PNG or WEBP, max 5 MB).
- AI analyses — Look Like Me Engine detects facial landmarks and calculates a similarity vector for each pair.
- Get your score — a resemblance percentage with each parent, along with a verdict and a trait-by-trait analysis.
The test is completely free, with no sign-up required for the global score. Your photos are kept for up to 24h to display your result, then automatically deleted.
Who looks most like mum or dad in the family?
One of the most popular uses of the test is comparing siblings. Who looks most like mum or dad? Run the test for each child and compare the results. The diversity of resemblances within the same family perfectly illustrates the genetic lottery at work during each conception.
Resemblance test vs. paternity DNA test
It is important to note that our family resemblance test is provided for entertainment and informational purposes. It is based on visual facial features, not the genome, and does not constitute proof of biological kinship. For genetic confirmation, only a certified paternity DNA test is reliable.
